Hello, I am Zenya 🙂
I’ve been an artist ever since I can remember. I work both digitally and using traditional media. My inspiration is drawn from nature and the beauty of fairy tales and all things that can be imagined 🙂
I grew up in artistic family, loved history, art and was refusing to read anything if it was not an adventure story or fairy tale. Sometimes we had trips to the theatre – behind the scenes! People there were fascinating, and there was the machinery, dry ice fog, jeweled costumes, coloured lights and all sorts of magic! Unbelivable revolving stages’ rides, clouds – huge painted swings, cloud-shaped on one side, hung from the incredible height; flowers that rained down, miraculously ended up the right way round and created a meadow… looked like everything is possible there – a great inspiration for me.
Part of my family lineage were merchants who all shared a love of the arts, and my Granddad, navy officer, was also a painter, and so was my Mum. These merchants’ main trade was textile and fabric: I am surprised I didn’t think how family history is repeating itself long after I designed my first fabric – it was for school bags and cases collection (boring 🙂 but quite successful 🙂 )
After an art school I had spent years working as a designer/art director, before I fell in love with my future husband, moved to the UK and had our baby daughter. My two other children, Sonya and Anfim were already grown-ups and little Elowen was three when I started to work on fabric design and collaborated with my friend Olga to create Firebird Fabrics.
Currently I live in Nottingham, UK where Robin Hood and other local legends are my inspiration for work with Nottingham’s tourist shops.
If you want to see what I’m up to or to get in touch check my Instagram page or drop me a line. I would love to hear from you! 🙂
Thank you! 🙂
